Cloudbet in the Northern Territory: The Short Answer
Cloudbet's terms list Australia among restricted countries, so read them before you sign up. Locally, the Northern Territory looks after its own pubs, clubs and two land casinos, Mindil Beach in Darwin and Lasseters in Alice Springs, while online casino rules are federal. Free help is on 1800 858 858.
The rest of this page covers what is specific to the Territory: the regulators, the casinos, pokies limits, tax and the support available. For the operator behind the site, see is Cloudbet legit.
Who Regulates Gambling in the Northern Territory
The NT splits gambling oversight by activity. Licensing NT, which sits in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality, is the front door for gambling licences and handles gaming under the Gaming Control Act 1993 and the Gaming Machine Act 1995. The Director of Gaming Control looks after the Community Benefit Fund. Bookmakers and betting exchanges are licensed under the Racing and Wagering Act 2024.

The wagering body is changing its name. The Racing and Wagering Amendment Act 2026, assented to on 4 June 2026, turns it into the Northern Territory Wagering Commission and hands racing control to a new Director. It starts on a day set by Gazette notice and no later than 9 March 2028, and the department's licensed operators page already uses the new name. Whether the change has formally commenced is not confirmed, so both names may appear on official pages for now. The NT list shows around 50 licensed wagering operators, some marked as not currently trading.
Online casino games sit under federal law instead. The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 sets which interactive gambling services can be offered to people in Australia, and ACMA is the federal body that administers it. An NT wagering licence covers betting, not casino games. Cloudbet's own licence is from the Curaçao Gaming Authority (OGL/2024/328/0599), held by Halcyon Super Holdings B.V.
Casinos in the Northern Territory
If you are looking for casinos in Northern Territory, there are two, and both are run under an agreement with the NT Government. The Government's own page says the Territory has two land-based casinos, in Darwin and Alice Springs, and that it cannot grant another casino licence during the term of the agreement without the existing operator's consent.
Mindil Beach Casino Resort, Darwin
Mindil Beach Casino Resort is the Darwin casino. Its website names Delaware North as the operator, and the resort also holds the licence to run NT Keno in hotels and clubs across the Territory. You must be 18 or over to enter, and the site carries the 24-hour counselling number 1800 858 858.

Lasseters Hotel Casino, Alice Springs
Lasseters is the Territory's other casino, in Alice Springs, as part of a hotel. NT Keno also runs there, under licence from Mindil. Its website states that no person under 18 is permitted entry to the casino.
Both venues are land-based and follow NT gaming rules. Machine counts for each casino are not published in a source we could confirm, so none are quoted here. Official details are on the NT Government casinos page.
Pokies Venues in the Northern Territory
Pokies venues in Northern Territory are licensed pubs, clubs, hotels and the two casinos, in Darwin and Alice Springs. The limits below come from the NT Government gaming machines page.
Territory cap
No more than 1,659 machines across all NT pubs and clubs. The cap was 1,699 before the 2023 reduction.
Hotels and pubs
A hotel liquor licence allows up to 20 gaming machines per venue.
Clubs
A club liquor licence allows up to 55 machines per venue.
Casino machines
Machines inside the casinos sit outside the pub and club cap.
Fees and levies
Installing and licensing machines carries fees, and levies apply to additional machines. No figures are given on the page.
Venue self-exclusion
A written notice can bar you from up to 35 venues for up to 2 years, arranged through a counsellor, a venue manager or NT Gambling Care at Hospitality NT on (08) 8981 3650.
Finer points, such as how many venues hold machine licences, the permitted trading hours and how cashless gaming systems may be used, sit in the Government's directions to gaming machine licensees. The simplest way to know the rules where you play is to ask the venue, or Licensing NT.
Gambling Tax in the Northern Territory
For a player, gambling tax in the Northern Territory is simple: winnings are generally not taxed. The Australian Taxation Office says gambling winnings are generally not ordinary income, and that capital gains and losses made directly from gambling winnings or losses are left out of your CGT figures. That applies the same way in Darwin, Alice Springs or anywhere else in Australia. The ATO's page on crypto asset prizes and gambling winnings sets this out.
Crypto adds one wrinkle. If a prize is paid in crypto, receiving it is not income, but selling or swapping the coins later can trigger capital gains tax, with the market value on the day you received them as your cost base. The ATO's worked example has A$20,000 won, later sold for A$30,000, leaving a A$10,000 gain. Cloudbet's terms (clause 7.5.6) also state that taxes on winnings are the player's sole responsibility.
Keep your own records
Note the date and value in US$ of each crypto payout you receive. It makes any later sale far easier to work out. This is general information, not tax advice, so ask the ATO or a registered tax agent about your own case.
The taxes that operators and venues pay are a separate matter. Pokies pay a monthly tax on gross profit in bands, set by regulation in 2020 at 12.91% up to A$10,000, 22.91% from A$10,001 to A$100,000, 32.91% from A$100,001 to A$200,000 and 42.91% above A$200,000, and later changes are published in the consolidated regulations. Casinos and licensed hotels also feed the Community Benefit Fund through a 10% levy on player loss from electronic gaming machines. In 2024-25 that levy raised A$16.557 million and funded more than A$16.8 million in community grants. Clubs do not pay the levy but report their own community contributions.
What to Do If Cloudbet Did Not Work for You
If the site will not open, a deposit does not arrive or Cloudbet asks for more checks, work through these steps calmly. None of them involves tools to hide your location, and none should be used.
Read the message
"We don't serve players from your jurisdiction" usually means the location detected from your connection is on Cloudbet's restricted list, according to its help centre.
Check clause 7.1.3
Australia is in that list. Cloudbet says it can void bets placed from a listed jurisdiction, suspend an account, withhold winnings and forfeit bonuses.
If an account is restricted
The message "Withdrawing will restrict your account" means you withdraw the remaining eligible balance, after which the account is closed.
Missing deposits
Wait at least 10 minutes, then check the network, the coin and the minimum. Our declined deposit guide and minimum deposit page go through each cause.
Extra checks
Verification asks for photo ID, proof of address dated within 3 months and a face check. Names must match, and mobile phone bills are refused. Cloudbet may run checks at any time.
Talk to support
Use the 24/7 live chat with your details. Do not open a second account: multiple accounts per person are prohibited.
Checklist Before You Start
A few minutes of preparation keeps play safe, whichever venue or site you choose.
- 1 Be 18 or over: both NT casinos and Cloudbet admit adults only.
- 2 Read the terms for your location: clauses 5.4 and 7.1.3 say where Cloudbet must not be used. Each player is responsible for checking local law.
- 3 Know what BetStop covers: the National Self-Exclusion Register covers around 150 Australian-licensed wagering providers, from 3 months to lifetime, but not online casino games.
- 4 Set deposit limits: at Cloudbet, daily, weekly or monthly limits live under Preferences, then Responsible gambling. A stricter limit applies at once, a looser one after 24 hours.
- 5 Use the breaks: cooling-off for 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month or 3 months, or self-exclusion for 1, 3 or 5 years or for life. Once set, self-exclusion cannot be reversed.
- 6 Save the help lines: Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858, 24 hours. In Darwin, Amity Community Services is on (08) 8944 6565 or 1800 684 372, Monday to Friday 8am-4.30pm.

Cloudbet and Gambling in the NT: Questions
Quick answers for readers in Darwin, Alice Springs and across the Territory.
Can I use Cloudbet in the Northern Territory?
Cloudbet's terms (clause 7.1.3) list Australia among the countries where you must not be physically located when using the site, and the Northern Territory is part of Australia. Read those terms before you register, and see our Cloudbet legitimacy guide for what the operator and its licence look like.
Are there casinos in the Northern Territory?
Yes, two. According to the NT Government, the Territory has two land-based casinos: Mindil Beach Casino Resort in Darwin and Lasseters Hotel Casino in Alice Springs. Both admit people aged 18 and over.
Do I pay tax on gambling winnings in the NT?
The Australian Taxation Office generally does not treat gambling winnings as ordinary income. Taxes paid by venues and operators are separate. If you are paid in crypto and later sell it, capital gains tax can apply to that sale.
Who regulates gambling in the Northern Territory?
Pokies, casinos and community gaming fall under the Gaming Control Act 1993 and the Gaming Machine Act 1995, administered through Licensing NT in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality. Sports bookmakers are licensed by the Northern Territory Racing and Wagering Commission, which is due to be renamed the Wagering Commission.
How many pokies can NT pubs and clubs have?
The Territory-wide cap for pubs and clubs is 1,659 machines. A hotel liquor licence allows up to 20 machines per venue and a club liquor licence up to 55. Machines inside the two casinos are not counted in that cap.
Does BetStop cover my Cloudbet account?
No. BetStop covers Australian-licensed online and phone wagering providers and does not apply to online casino games. Use Cloudbet's own deposit limits, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion, and call Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858 any time.
